About 10 years ago I played the epic Richard Burns Rally rallysim for countless hours. (And Rally Championship 2000 before that, though that one could not be called a rallysim.)
I downloaded DiRT Rally from Steam yesterday and hooked up the ol’ Logitech MOMO force feedback wheel and pedals to the PC for the first time in years.
I am happy to report that I still speak Pacenotes! Within minutes I was able to go full attack. In car camera is still the only real cam for games like this, I still prefer left foot braking to initiate oversteer over weight transfer/Scandinavian flicking, I still work up a sweat and I still get this lurid shit-eating grin when hauling Rally ass.
Oh, and I have some sore muscles in my upper arms.

I still have my old Momo in the basement. Many good memories using that wheel for Richard Burns Rally. I need to remember to rip an ISO of my RBR disk before it finally disintegrates to the point of unusability.

As amazing as RBR was, it shows its age. DiRT Rally was €9.99 on Steam, so 80% off (offer is still 3 hours valid as of writing) and that is a steal!
My first hours with DiRT Rally really bring back fond memories, so to me it’s a worthy successor. One that can properly scale to wide screen aspect ratio and do good anti aliasing. RBR can natively only do 4:3 and AA has to be set through video drivers. I haven’t kept track of all those numerous RBR mods so it might be different now.

DiRT rally is certainly a worthy successor to RBR but I still like coming back to RBR from time to time.

RBR and my MOMO, under Windows 10, don’t play nice. As in: crashes galore! So for now, it’s DiRT. A fresh install may come later.

I haven’t used my Momo since the Windows 7 days (and come to think of it the last time I ran RBR it was on Windows 7 as my Windows 10 machine doesn’t have a DVD drive) but the older Logitech drivers tend not to play well with Windows 10. I have to reinstall my G27 drivers after every Windows update in order to get it to recognize my wheel as a G27 instead of a Driving Force. Have you tried running RBR in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or XP? XP mode seems to fix a lot of games that worked on 7 but not 10.
